Adaptive Design

What is Adaptive Design?

Adaptive design is an approach to app and interface design in which several predefined layouts are created for different screen sizes, devices, or display conditions. When a user opens an application, the interface selects the layout that best matches the device. In mobile app development, adaptive design helps optimize the user interface for smartphones, tablets, and other devices.

Why it matters

Adaptive design helps provide a consistent and usable experience across different devices and screen sizes. Instead of displaying exactly the same layout everywhere, an app can adapt its navigation, content placement, controls, and other interface elements to the device being used. This can improve usability, readability, and the overall mobile user experience.

Example

A mobile app may display a single-column layout on a smartphone while using a two-column layout with additional navigation on a tablet. Both versions provide the same core functionality, but the interface is adapted to make better use of the available screen space.
