REST API

What is a REST API?

A REST API is a type of application programming interface that allows software systems to exchange data over the web using standard HTTP requests. It provides a structured way for an application to request, create, update, or delete information in another system. Mobile apps commonly use REST APIs to communicate with databases, external services, and other backend systems.

Why it matters

REST APIs make it possible to connect a mobile application with external data and functionality without building every service directly into the app. They can be used for integrations with business systems, databases, content services, and many other platforms. For no-code app development, API connectivity can significantly expand what an application can do beyond the functionality available directly in the app builder.

Example

A company creates a mobile app that needs to display information stored in an external business system. A REST API allows the application to request the required data from that system and display it to users inside the app.
