API (Application Programming Interface)

What is API (Application Programming Interface)?

An API, or Application Programming Interface, is a set of rules and protocols that allows different software systems to communicate and exchange data. In mobile app development, APIs connect an application to external services, databases, platforms, and other software. They allow a mobile app to access functionality such as online payments, maps, authentication, product catalogs, booking systems, or third-party data without building every service from scratch.

Чому це важливо

APIs make mobile apps more flexible and allow businesses to extend their functionality through integrations with other services. For an app builder, API support is especially important because it enables users to connect their application to existing business tools and external platforms. This can reduce development time and make it possible to add advanced features without creating an entire backend or integration from scratch.

Приклад

A business creates a mobile shopping app and connects it to an external payment service through an API. When a customer makes a purchase in the app, the API securely sends the necessary payment information to the payment provider and returns the transaction result to the mobile application.
