Application Lifecycle

What is Application Lifecycle?

The application lifecycle is the complete sequence of stages a software application goes through, from the initial idea and planning to development, testing, publishing, updates, maintenance, and eventually retirement. For a mobile app, the lifecycle typically includes defining requirements, creating the interface and functionality, testing the application, releasing it through platforms such as the App Store and Google Play, monitoring its performance, and improving it over time.

Why it matters

A mobile application is not finished once it is published. Businesses need to maintain content, fix issues, introduce new features, adapt to operating system changes, and respond to evolving user needs. Understanding the application lifecycle helps businesses plan the long-term development and management of their mobile app instead of treating its initial launch as the final stage.

Example

A company creates a mobile app for its customers, tests it, and publishes it on the App Store and Google Play. After launch, the team monitors how customers use the application, updates content, fixes identified issues, and introduces new features. These activities are all part of the app’s lifecycle.
